RESILIENCE

Walkers Park Concept Sketch: Medavakkam

This project envisions a serene walkers park designed as a public green refuge that harmonizes recreational needs with the protection and enhancement of the surrounding ecosystem. The park’s layout is carefully planned to integrate ecological and hydrological interventions, including blue-green infrastructure elements such as stormwater sedimentation ponds, bioswales, and rain gardens, which regulate surface runoff and improve water quality.

The design promotes resilient landscapes and healthy watersheds, incorporating native vegetation corridors, tree canopies, and layered planting strategies to support local biodiversity. Meandering pedestrian pathways and contemplative seating areas are strategically positioned to encourage low-impact human activity, allowing visitors to engage with the natural environment without disturbing its ecological balance.

By combining landscape architecture, environmental engineering, and sustainable urban planning, the park addresses climatic, social, and environmental challenges, providing a multifunctional space that mitigates flooding, enhances groundwater recharge, and fosters community well-being. The integration of interactive educational signage and naturalistic play areas further enriches the park experience, making it both an ecological haven and a socially engaging urban space.
